This is a fine example of Josephine Napurulla’s painting. It depictis the place where she was born in 1948 (Tjukurla) – the central motif in the painting. The overall design clearly depicts the geography of the surrounding ridges, sand and clay adjoining Lake Hopkins, a significant salt lake. It also depicts the travels and creation activities of her Tjukurrupa (Dreamtime) ancestors.
Painted in part using the drag-dotting style on black and the clever use of orange/ochre bordering a creamy ground makes the painting shimmer as if it is in the desert.
