Don’s paintings have the authenticity of initiated older men whose works often focus on totemic relationships within the artists’ initiated and ceremonial life. This is an evocative painting of the file snake -“Kedjebe” in Kunwinjku language – including water lillies growing on the snake’s back, not unlike the more ceremonial traditional rendering of the rainbow serpent.
A fine painting imbued with typical understatement using the traditional, single line painting style associate with the Kunwinjku people of Western Arnhem Land.
