Current Exhibition: ‘Omie Tapa Art from PNG'
From remote villages in Oro Province in Papua New Guinea, come these unique and beautiful paintings crafted by 13 Omie women. Depicting tattoo designs of pig hoof prints, red and black parrot feathers and fruit design of the bellybutton among many others, the women are keeping alive the ancient culture of the Omie people. The Barkcloth is made by beating the inner bark of rainforest trees until paper thin and then decorated using colours made from fruit, leaves, berries and ash.
